The Elizabeth Public Library Main Library will be closed to the public from Monday, June 29 through Friday, July 10, 2026 while new carpet is installed on the second floor. Because of the layout of the building and the nature of the work, the Main Library will need to be fully closed during this project — no library staff will be on-site and no library services will be available at the Main Library building during this time. We know this may be inconvenient, and we appreciate your patience while we complete this improvement.

Before the Closure: Service Changes at Main
Public Computers — Limited Starting Wednesday, June 24th
Public computer services at the Main Library will be limited beginning Wednesday, June 24th through Saturday, June 27, as we prepare for the closure. Public Computers for adult patrons will only be available on the 3rd floor Local History Area beginning Friday, June 26th.
Circulation Desk 2 — Unavailable Saturday, June 27
Circ 2 at the Main Library will not be available on Saturday, June 27th.
What to Know During the Closure
Main Library Collections
Main Library collections will not be accessible during the closure. Materials also placed on hold from the Main location will not be accessible. Patrons are encouraged to visit any open branch to browse and borrow materials from that branch's collection.
Holds
Incoming holds that would normally be picked up at Main will be redirected to the Elmora Branch for pickup during the closure. Patrons who prefer to pick up their holds at LaCorte or ePort may contact any open branch for assistance. During the closure, holds redirected to Elmora will be held for 5 days.
Returns
Materials may be returned to any open EPL branch while Main is closed. The Main Library book drop will be locked and unavailable during the closure. Elizabeth Public Library is fine-free, so no overdue fines will be charged for EPL materials.
Programs & Events
Some programs scheduled at Main may be moved, rescheduled, or canceled. Please check our online calendar for the most up-to-date information.
Meeting Rooms
Meeting rooms at the Main Library will not be available during the closure.
Notary Services
Notary services located at the Main Library will not be available while the building is closed.
City ID Services
